OUR TEAM:
My love of sports and competition was instilled in me at a very early age. By the time I was 7 and with the help of my supportive parents, I started an active athletic regimen that has carried throughout my life. My parents allowed me to participate in competitive Baseball,Soccer, Basketball, Track and Field, Skiing, Rock Climbing and Gymnastics.
By 13, due to my competitive drive and physical ability, I quit all other sports and focused on Gymnastics. That season I won 7 gold medals including the all around at The British Columbia Championships and won the Washington State Championship as well. Later that season, I placed 9th all around at Canadian National Championships and made the Junior National Team.
After my father's job promotion and relocation to Northern California, I began to train at Stanford University under Two Time World Champion Tong Fei. By 16, I competed at the Junior Olympic National Championships and trained with the US Olympic Team. In college, I competed in NCAA Division 1 Men's gymnastics and defeated my old team Stanford going on to score a NCAA Record Perfect Ten on the Still Rings.I went on to compete another year in USA Gymnastics before retiring due to injury. I then travelled the world starring in a Cirque De Soleil type live show before settling in Los Angeles. Realizing there isn't much afterlife for a retired gymnast, I decided to take my skills and blend them with my other passion –film- and do stunt work.
I discovered CrossFit in 2005 while teaching adult and boy's gymnastics at Broadway Gymnastics School in Marina Del Rey. Andy Petranek (now owner of CrossFit LA) wanted help learning gymnastics skills and asked me down to check out his new gym in Santa Monica. After a tabatta workout I was spent and hooked like everyone else. I had found something that would allow me to not only still compete , but teach the dying skills of Men's Gymnastics. Soon after I received my Level 1 certification, I began teaching the CrossFit principles with my own blend of body weight training to private clients. My business grew exponentially over the last few years, and in June 2010, we opened DogTown CrossFit in Culver City CA. I co-own the box with Liz Arnold (former USA Judo Olympian) and Adam Noble (ex ProSnowboarder, Olympic Lifter) and its a perfect mix of all things CrossFit. We offer a gymnastics class (like an Olympic lift class) set on skill learning but geared towards CrossFit. I am a total gym-rat and love to work hard and help others work hard to attain their goals as well.
